The green tea diet is another one of these crazy fad diets that enters the media spotlight because celebrities claim that it is a miracle weight loss diet. There’s been so many in the last few years passing through the press, and none of them ever really work for anyone. But maybe the green tea diet is different? A little while ago on Oprah Winfrey’s show, Dr. Perricone was a guest, and he said that if Oprah merely swapped the coffee she drinks to green tea, she’d lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks. Oprah did see great results in her body shape from green tea, and maybe it was this that started off the green tea trend.
Oprah isn’t the only celebrity who would swear by the green tea either, either. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Lindsay Lohan all swear by the diet as a lifesaver in keeping their A-list figures.
But what exactly does the green tea diet entail? Well, there’s only two real ways to lose weight. That is, by reducing the amount of calories you consume, or increasing the amount of energy you body uses. The green tea diet takes on both of these methods, which might explain why so many people find it so successful. Green tea contains no carbohydrates, and no calories – so you are going to burn more energy through lifting the cup to your mouth and swallowing it than the green tea is going to give you! Green tea can reduce your appetite, and increase your metabolism – meaning that it will stop you wanting to eat as much, and when you do it, it will help it pass through your system and burn off that much quicker.
The typical green tea diet involves drinking four or five cups of the tea a day, and this should be enough to see maximum benefits. It can even be bought in a capsule form, if you don’t like the taste of it. Alternatively, add lemon juice, honey and ice to the green tea and it makes a refreshing and tasty summer drink.
The green tea diet is great because it can fit in alongside your ordinary diet. Of course, the effects are not going to be quite as successful if you’re still gorging on chocolate and cakes all day, but if you use it alongside a healthy balanced diet you should start to see the results. Some studies have also found that green tea is very good for the body, and has been found to work as a medicinal supplement. So not only can the green tea diet shed the pounds, it can also keep your health in tip top shape.
Maybe the celebrities really have found a successful diet in the green tea method…
